SS11:: Disaya

Disaya Sorakraikitikul (Try pronouncing that in a hurry. Or at all), most known for her cute and funky jewellery designs, has launched her spring/ summer 2011 clothing range.

The Disaya collection was inspired by a 17th and 18th century Portuguese tradition where girls created a hankerchief to demonstrate their love for their chosen man.
It sees her taking a more vintage, sophisticated approach with bland colours taking control. It's pretty though and I'm really fond of the photos used to advertise this new collection.

The scenery's well suited to the outfit, thought through and not just a boring backboard.
It blends in with the patterns used, which looks artistic and representable.

Her previous ready-to-wear collections have been worn by the likes of Agyness Deyn and Jennifer Lopez and Disaya says that she would love to dress for Alexa Chung.
With these latest designs, I can see that happening as some of of them are very Alexa-like
.

It's a big world:: Maybe a Midi is all a girl needs!

Similar to the maxi, the Midi skirts were popular last season and they're still as chic today! Midi-skirts, you could probably have gathered already, are skirts that hit around your knees or below (not your ankles though) and designers like Chanel have reintroduced new lengths all over the catwalk!

Therefore I've put together a little picture to show how you could wear incorporate it in your wardrobe:

Links: Blue skirt, Green skirtCreamish skirt, Left belt, Middle belt, Right belt, Ankle socks, Left green heels, Right green heels, White heels, Dark blue heels, Light blue heels, Gladiators, Grey bow flats, Black studded flats, Creamish bow flats, Blue flats.

As you can probably tell...there are loads of combinations to make! :') When it comes to tops and etc, settle for something more fitted, either it be long sleeved or short, and you could do for a colour of the similar pallette or comepletely the opposite! Throw on a cosy cardigan to add warmth and sparkle it up with jewellery!

Inspired:: Flickr Addict Series- No.3

Inspiration can be taken from all sorts of media, really. And I've probably gone for an easier option, but Flickr is definately one of those thought-provoking website, where people can upload, edit, explore or share their images with everyone. To some extent, the images do illustrate a different perspective so I've decided that a fashion interpretation can be expressed vividly. Please note that no credit will be taken for any of the Flickr Images and the links to them will be provided below.

Por las ramas.

If I remember well, this was one of the exclusive pictures of the day...or something :') I picked this one because ...well, the bird does look really cute in my opinion! But also, the monchrome pallette gives a great effect and contrast!

To create an outfit from this, I mainly focused on the feathered-texture of the bird! And this dress does a great job of illustrating the detail and the belt attached to it, it portrays the branch of the tree. Then to continue on with the monotone colour, I've added this parka (in fashion, at the moment I believe!) to keep you wrapped up and warm! It'd be a challenge to put off this coat for an evening attire, so it's worth the risk! With the coat adding a military edge to the outfit, I've balalnced it out using these stunning black patterned heels!

Links: Parka, Dress and Shoes
Maaybeee, i was a tad inspired..but i decided to create another one to portray the bird's little wings!

Links: Jeans, Dress and Wellingtons
This time I aimed to achieve a daytime look instead! Similar to the previous, this dress has the same colour and the belt but rather than feathered ruffles, this one focuses more on the draped look. Oddly enough, I'm sure Cher Lloyd..wore something like this on X-factor? ..Not that i'm obsessed with it or anything, but...yeah, moving on...

Although it's a dress, i'd still pair it up with these jeans for the warmth as it still goes with the pallette of the image. Finally, stand out with these wellies and you're bound to tackle the winter blues! These wellingtons are something worth spending your money on!

The Road to Romance.

For the next part of the Flickr Addict Series, a friend of mine had choosen an inspirational picture and ta-da, here's what i got!

If I remember (sorry, memory fail!) my friend personally loved this picture because of the reflection of the stones and liked the colour used! Even I'd agree that the texture in this was outstanding!

Image Link
At first, I knew this called for another evening outfit! To portray the texture in the stones, i believe this skirt does the job! Although you can't really tell, upclose this skirt is actually made of velvet and with that structure, how can one not love it?! Focusing on the midnight sky, I've used this lace-ish top which works well. Since the image is set during the dark, I felt using tights to create a perfect silhouette, which i paired with these super trending and unique mesh-like wedges! Additionally, I've used this necklace to resemble the moonlight.

Links: Shoes, Top, Skirt, Tights and Necklace
Even though velvet is known to be more popular for evening events, I want to show you that you could incorporate it in your daily wear as well!

Links: Skirt, Top, Shoes and Necklace
Still using the same velvet skirt, this time I've used this casual-ish purple floral top which goes well the reflection of the black cobbles. But nevertheless, I've resembled hte blue sky through these pom-pom shoes! To finish it all off, this necklace portrays the stones with its beaded structure.

SS 11: Chanel Couture

The spring/summer Chanel Couture collection hit the Paris runway the other day with Diane Kruger, Vanessa Paradis and Alexa Chung accompanying the front row.

This season sees Lagerfeld indulging in a pastel colour selection of lilac, pink and blue and there is a noticeable relaxed feel as the models strut their stuff in flat, black patent shoes.
"This is the way young women dress nowadays," Karl, himself, revealed about the inspirations behind the collection; casual with tshirts, thigh-length dresses and slim trousers.
There was a touch of glamour, however, with the glittering black of said trousers and the loose tops which shimmered in the light- a ray of realisation to how a woman really does dress these days and that couture no longer has to be formal and luxurious.

Be Inspired: when music and fashion collide

Last week it was announced that The Strokes' fouth album will finally be released (21st March, remember that date) with the title Angles. You do not realise how happy this makes me and I'm sure fans feel the same way. It's been four years since their last album and the release of the follow-up was suppose to come out last year but, rather annoyingly, kept being put back. Therefore, the fact a date has been confirmed means I can finally relax.

So,I thought now would be a good time to express my love for the band's fashion sence. Call me shallow but I do tend to prefer musicians if they look good- they're just nicer to look at.
The Strokes, ever since they formed in 1998, have supported a look of effortless rock n roll. It's not your glamerous, try hard, get-dressed-up-to-put-on-a-good-show look. As guitarist Nick Valensi has said in the past "Our label has never told us how to dress or anything. We've never changed our look for an album" which tells us they are naturally gifted with style. That's always reassuring to know.
And they were wearing leather jackets, skinny jeans and converse way before it became an over popular trend, so I like to think they are partly responsible for it.

It wasn't just their music music which influenced millions, when they rose up from the depth of New York City, it was their freakin' rad appearance too.
All hail the return of The Strokes!

British Comedy Awards 2011:: Let's play a game

A bit of a curve from fashion but I was watching the British Comedy Awards last night and ended up doing some quick drawings because that's the way I roll at times. They are appalling, I won't deny it, but can you guess who the comedians are?

I'm so glad Horrible Histories won 'best sketch show'. If you've never seen it, you're missing out. It's brilliant even if it is a kids show.
Would I Lie To You received 'best comedy panel show' which I'm also happy about because that program never fails to make me laugh and I'm pleased for Samantha Spiro who was announced comedy breakthrough artist. I'm suprised she was even nominated but she is hilarious in Grandma's House (and Simon Amstell looked so pleased for her)
Congratualtions Michael McIntyre too. It was kind of obvious he would get 'best male comic' but I love him so I don't care

Lauren Laverne who I thought was looking really glamerous at the ceremony

And here are those all important answers.

Did my research, i did:: The Classic Chanel Bag

Designed by the famous Coco Chanel in 1955, the Chanel 2.55 is a must have classic staple item of any century for those who can afford it :’)
This timeless staple is clearly the essence of class and sophistication and that too, in 1983 it was reissued by Karl Lagerfeld (love that genius) which is the exact replica of the original! You can tell this guy knows his bags! And what’s more is that the copies were created in commemoration to the 50th anniversary of the original 2.55?!

According to StyleFrizz (this was something I found interesting…) there’s a bit of history behind the bag, waaaaay before Lagerfeld re-established it;

  • The lining – The lining’s brown colour represents the colour of the uniforms from the convent where she grew up.
  • The inside compartment – there’s a zippered compartment at the inside of the front flap. That’s where Coco Chanel hid her love letters (from her lover at the time).
  • The backside – there’s a back outside flap on the handbag – that’s where Ms Chanel stashed extra money.
  • The shoulder strap – as I said before, Coco Chanel grew up in an convent, at the orphanage. The caretakers hold the keys at their waist dangling from the same type of chains as the 2.55 shoulder strap chains.
  • The front lock – the 2.55 front lock is different from the classic double CC logo. It’s logo is called “the Mademoiselle Lock” (because Ms Chanel was never married)
So this bag practically has its own personality :O

Since then, celebrities like Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Sienna Miller , Alexa Chung and Lily Allen (there are so many more!) each have their classic 2.55!

Just to add, HOW CUTE DOES THE GIRL LOOK WITH THE BAG?!

http://www.tonguechic.com/articles/1027-Icon-of-the-Week-Chanel-255%20%3C%20the%20little%20girl-%20HOW

What it is about this bag that everyone seems to love is that it is so refined and feminine and just goes to show that Chanel Bags are forever-a-must and express anyone’s elegance <3
You can tell I love this bag a lot! But the downside of Chanel’s 2.55 is that they ARE made of actual animal skin- which is a major bummer :/ ….completely broke my heart.
On the other hand, there are loads of substitutions! (random big gap...)

Still as chic, here’s one in red- only at £30!
Here are a few I found, that have some similarities to the 2.55- some are purse-friendly, some are not! (big gaps again...grr)
